Animals as inspiration – why wolves, foxes, and Saimaa ringed seals appear in Vioris’s jewelry

Nature is has been always for myself and surely many also for others more than just landscape, which to look window. It is stories, myths and of symbols source. When started more to think, what kind of jewelry and objects I want to do and what whole story trick is, not has been difficult state, that animals they are true probably. Neither not has been difficult ponder, which animals; well, Finnish of course. 

Wolf – power and conflicts symbol

In Finnish in mythology wolf is feared and respected creature. Nowadays it feels at the same time being hated and beloved, but conflicts despite it is inseparable part of Finland nature. Your jewelry it carry with it strength.

Fox – wisdom and survival

Fox is known in folk tradition cunning and wise as an animal, which find way get through about the situation than about the situation. It is clever, but at the same time playful and light. To me fox is reminder about it, that things indeed get by.

Saimaa ringed seal - a rarity in Saimaa

Although Saimaa ringed seal not so much appear in mythology, is it important symbol to Finland and vespecially to Saimaa, reminder nature's value and its about vulnerability. It is my hometown rarity, which not found anywhere elsewhere about the world and admit, that I am not it selfish ever seen.

Animals also my enemy

Animals are not just subjects for jewelry - they are a part of my life on many levels. Tattoos are a big part of me, and many of them have drawn inspiration specifically from Finnish animals. A tattoo is a permanent story, just like a piece of jewelry is a wearable story. Both tell about how strongly I feel connected to nature and its diversity.

When I choose animals for my jewelry, I do not do it by chance. Each animal has roots in Finnish mythology, nature and symbolism. They are not just images, at least not to me - they tell of courage, wisdom, and respect for nature. When you wear the jewelry or decorate your home with a magnet, a small part of these is with you.
